Japanese car auctions are high-tech. Online buying from multiple auction sites through japanese car exporter occurs simultaneously- You would expect nothing less from a country at the forefront of the world’s technology. In Japan, around 150,000 cars are for sale every week at Japanese car auctions. All cars are inspected and comprehensively graded and vehicle history is available. It is a buyer’s market.

Thanks to the nature of Japanese car owners, many of the vehicles at auction are cars in near-new condition. Japanese car owners rarely mistreat vehicles and cars are commonly traded for newer models every 2 years.

The Japanese domestic car market is full of models that are not offered overseas and the huge turnover of rare cars is generating immense interest from overseas collectors and enthusiasts. Are you looking for something unique and exotic, too?

The grading system is in place so you know what you are bidding on. They’re tough- there is no sugarcoating details of damage and, thanks to Japanese legislation, it is hard for a person to do unscrupulous repairs. The system grades exterior and interior of vehicles and accounts for previous repair history and modifications. This is great for the buyer as any repairs can be planned.

The system used to grade vehicles in Japanese car auctions can be complicated, persevere with it and then talk to Autoadvan for expert insight and guidance in the purchase of the car of your dreams.

Auction Grading

Japanese car auctions grade the exterior and interior- included in these ratings are factors like accident damage, so read carefully. A car might appear a high quality purchase at a cheap price to a novice- only to discover later there is damage lurking deep. A car with high mileage might also get a lower grade.

6/6+    This high ranking is usually reserved for vehicles that are in showroom condition and have never been driven. A vehicle with such     a rating would be in immaculate condition.

5    The car is almost as-new with minor imperfections. There may be some minor scratches, dents or marks. A car with such a high rating  would be free of modified parts. Obviously, this grade becomes less  likely as the vehicles get older so expect a vehicle rated five to be no     more than 3 years old. Interior an ‘A’ rating or higher.

4.5    This grade is only slightly lower but the quality of the vehicle is still very high. Interior and exterior are in outstanding condition. If the vehicle has had repairs than those repairs are of a very high standard. Interior a ‘B’ rating or higher.

4    Expect minor repairs needed to body and interior. Expect to see  normal wear and tear conducive to a similar car with the same  mileage and age. Interior a ‘C’ rating or higher.

3.5    This is an average condition vehicle and may have had some previous     repair work of acceptable standard. There will be some signs of wear and tear that are visible. Interior a ‘D’ rating or higher.

3    Various scratches/ dents. A car that may need considerable attention if your standards are high.

2    A car in very bad condition.

1    Difficult to get up to road standards and in some cases could be  because the vehicle has performance upgrades such as an aftermarket turbo. Vehicles that have undergone conversion from auto to manual     and vehicles that sustained flood damage will also be graded low. The auction sheet translation should detail any of this.

Note -In addition, ratings of RA or OA are given to vehicles that have had some accident damage and been repaired. Ratings of R, A or O relate to accident damage where parts have had to be replaced.

Interiors are graded A - D

A    Interior is immaculate
B    Very good condition
C    Will need to be professionally cleaned to bring up to good standard
D    Cleaning needed and some signs of wear and tear.
